Brief

To encourage professional development and continuing education, IslamicFamily provides financial reimbursement for approved courses in job-related fields or courses taken to satisfy the requirements of a job-related degree program

This policy applies to all eligible full-time employees who have completed at least 3 months of service prior to the start and end date of the course or term. The amount given to employees differs based on their level. In order to be reimbursed, you must be employed with IslamicFamily for 12 months. You may take a course before the 12 month seniority date has passed, however, the reimbursement for this course will not occur until after a 12 month period has passed.

Staff

All staff have an amount capped at CAD 500.00 annually. This amount does not roll over to the next calendar year.

Supervisors/Managers

All Supervisors and Managers have an amount capped at CAD 1000.00 annually. This amount does not roll over to the next calendar year.

Directors

All Program Directors, including the Executive Director have an amount capped at CAD 1,500.00 annually. This amount does not roll over to the next calendar year.

Definitions

Job related courses: Courses offered by a regionally accredited school, college or university that will enhance the employee’s performance in the present assignment or enable him/her to qualify for another job at IslamicFamily. This may include courses taken to satisfy the requirements of a job-related degree program.

Conferences and other job-related, professional networking events: Conferences or Networking events held to expose employees to new tools, resources and professionals that may be of assistance in the area in which the employee is working.

Reimbursable expenses: Reimbursable expenses include 100% of the following educational-related expenses for courses that the employee completes with a “B” grade or better (or a “pass” grade for pass-fail courses)

  1. Tuition

  2. Class-required reading books

  3. Lab fees and student service fees required for course registration

    Charges for supplies, parking, postage and other expenses are not reimbursable under this policy. In addition, reimbursement is not available for expenses covered by another source of educational assistance (ie. Grants, Scholarships etc).

Training During Work

Training can happen during work hours, but does not shift responsibilities. Trainees are still accountable for their duties.
