Workshop Overview

Scientific writing is a core element of research communication. It enables researchers to integrate, share, and refine knowledge across disciplines. While tools like ChatGPT and DeepL have enhanced efficiency, clarity, and multilingual accessibility, writing remains a deeply human activity—a way to thoughtfully engage across minds and cultures.

This workshop offers dedicated sessions on scientific writing, focusing on:

• Best practices for clear and logical expression
• Strategies for writing across languages and cultures
• Effective use of AI tools while preserving authorial intent, especially for non-native English speakers

We also offer sessions on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in science. Progress in research depends on inclusive environments that value diverse voices and backgrounds.

Topics in the DEI sessions include:

• Inclusive communication for equitable research participation
• Challenges faced by underrepresented groups and non-native speakers
• Practical steps toward an inclusive academic culture
• Comparative perspectives on DEI in the UK and Japan

Together, these sessions connect the technical skill of writing with the values that shape inclusive scientific communities, helping participants become more effective and thoughtful communicators in today’s global research landscape.
