To commemorate World Refugee Day (20 June), Rainbow Atheists and Humanists Australia are pleased to present this important expose on LGBTQI+ rights:

While the world is preoccupied with a viral pandemic, another pandemic sweeps Africa - one of discrimination, prejudice and intolerance. Many LGBTQI+ refugees flee their homes and seek shelter in Kenya, where things remain difficult and possibly deadly. What can be done to help our rainbow family? What is currently being done? Ian Seal speaks from personal experience as CEO of an LGBTQI+ aid group that renders assistance and works alongside LGBTQI+ refugees in the midst of crisis.

Ian Seal is Executive Director of THREE for All Foundation. THREE for All’s Many Coloured Sky program works in partnership with the Refugee Coalition of East Africa to support LGBTQI refugees in Kenya. Many Coloured Sky also supports LGBTQI+ refugees and people seeking asylum in Victoria, Australia, and supports LGBTQI+ organisations and communities in Uganda, Indonesia, the Philippines, PNG and Australia with capacity building, planning and project development, empowering those at the margins and intersections of LGBTQI+ communities to participate fully and equally. Prior to founding THREE for All, Ian worked in LGBTQI+ rights, mental health, HIV prevention and youth work, and as a consultant to UNICEF, UNFPA and a number of universities, governments and NGOs.
