We believe in providing a flexible work environment. That means working with you, our teammates, to integrate work into your life in a way that makes the most sense for both you and us.

While there aren't prescribed limits to the following, we encourage you to use your best judgement when applying them.

In regards to all of the following, we do expect you to communicate clearly when you expect to be out of the office or unavailable.

Outcome-oriented working hours

Traditional businesses operate in a "seat in chair" mentality and expect you to commit 8 hours a day to the company, ideally during normal working hours like 9AM - 5PM.

We think this is stupid. Some people perform better during non-standard working hours. Other people might need to take breaks in the middle of the day to accomplish chores.

For legal and accounting reasons, salaried employees will be assumed to work 8-hour days and that may be stated as such in your employment contract. However, your performance will be measured by the things you achieve, not by the hours you work.

If you work 12-hour days but aren't otherwise achieving the impact that we expect for the role, then this may not be the place for you. Conversely, we'll make sure that you are appropriately rewarded if you're consistently having a high impact - even if you're only putting in two hours a day.

Working from home

COVID-19 aside, there can be certain advantages to working in our office or collaborating in a coworking space - you'll be more looped in to what's happening and you'll probably develop stronger working relationships with your colleagues.

That said, home can be a better place to concentrate - or you may need to be at home to handle childcare, a delivery, or other personal matters.

We don’t have any rules around where you do your work from, so long as you’re able to get it done. That said, we do have some guidelines and recommendations on how to work from home successfully.

A solid internet connection is a must have

When working outside of the office, a fast and reliable internet connection is a basic requirement. Most of our meetings happen over video - your internet connection must be able to support video chat.

You are ultimately responsible for making sure you have a good connection, whether that means tweaking your home wifi equipment setup or even changing ISPs. At the end of the day, if you do not have a good enough internet connection you cannot do your job.

If you are struggling to establish a reliable connection at home, it is likely due to one of the following issues:

  1. Your internet service provider. Consider changing ISPs, though be aware that many of them operate on shared BT infrastructure in the UK.
  2. Your home wireless network. In some homes, the layout of the home and the nature of the construction material can make it difficult to get a reliable wireless connection, even if the internet connection itself is fast. If this is an issue for you, we recommend paying a professional to come to your home and help you configure things - you can expense this.

Invest in a personal workspace

Having a dedicated place for work is strictly better than working from wherever you happen to be at the time. We are creatures of habit and having a dedicated space helps your brain to get into "work mode" when you use it and into "personal mode" when you leave it.
