Context

Why is this important?

We have identified web3 ecosystems that want to run quadratic grants funding rounds as our initial target user of the Grants Protocol. From our user research, we’ve learned that communities in this group tend to either want to run quadratic funding or quadratic voting rounds to allocate their capital. While our first effort is enabling v1 quadratic funding rounds, we will very quickly need to offer a viable quadratic voting option on the protocol to support our target customers. The goal of this outcome is to create a v1 mechanism so that communities can run quadratic voting grants rounds on the Protocol.

What is Quadratic Voting?

Quadratic Voting (also known as Plural Voting) is an alternative voting method which enables voters to express how strongly they feel about a given issue. There is additional nuance beyond this, which is much better articulated in the following resources:

Initial user stories

As a framing, we have identified the high-level user stories below as a starting point for enabling this outcome. Note that this does not include payouts, as that will be created in a separate outcome.

As a ROUND OPERATOR, I want to use Quadratic Voting to distribute funding to my grantee.
