The macro shift of the workforce to remote is happening at a staggering pace, but teams aren’t adapting quickly enough to this new normal. Working remotely brings new challenges that hurt team happiness and productivity.
It's hard to get to know and bond with your team
Much of human communication is non-verbal: when we interact with others we subconsciously observe subtle gestures and tone of voice, intuiting feeling and emotion, adding depth to the words being spoken. This helps us connect with the people we work with.
A lot of this is lost in the shift to remote. Teams spend time on Zoom, which approximates higher bandwidth moments, but they are scheduled and fleeting, leaving no space for the serendipity or peripheral awareness that happens in person.

It's hard to understand what everyone is working on
Many teams are trying to work remotely the same way they did in person but synchronous workflows often don't work well in remote setups. When a team's size grows beyond Dunbar's number they experience a breakdown in information flow: it becomes difficult for team members to understand how their company is doing and what everyone is working on. We've learned from successful remote teams that this breakdown happens much earlier, and with far fewer people, and can be solved through a culture of trust and discipline.

Frond Hello is our first product, currently in private alpha. With Hello teams can build personalized pages to welcome and celebrate teammates or present their team to the world using video messages and links. As the first product, Hello is an introduction to Frond — a new set of tools we are building to help teams cultivate a workplace based in trust, even when you're not in the same room.
