Agri-food systems are responsible for 31% of global anthropogenic greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, drive nearly 90% of global deforestation annually, and degrade other important natural habitats such as peatlands and permanent grassland. Additionally, agriculture has led to steep declines in biodiversity caused by expansion of human colonisation and related soil, water and air pollution, which combine to reduce habitats and degrade ecosystems.

FarmOn develops cutting edge AI solutions to accelerate the transition towards regenerative farming.

By providing real-time, accurate, reliable, and verifiable data on sustainable farming practices, FarmOn helps financiers and governments unlock capital for the sustainable transition.

This Project

FarmOn is looking for a highly motivated intern to help developing algorithms to recognise sustainable farming practices. Such practices include recognise crop rotations, no tillage or the presence of cover crops on the field.

Why is this useful?

• Soil coverage, cover crops and crop rotations are necessary practices to sequester carbon in the soil, and reduce soil erosion and biodiversity loss.

Your tasks

• Co-develop a remote sensing machine learning model to detect crops for every parcel in Europe.
• Accompany meetings with clients in the financial sector (Agro banks, carbon credit companies) and innovative farmers to gather requirements.

📖 Requirements

You are…

• Experienced in implementing machine learning projects
  • Able to program in Python
  • Can demonstrate a precedent of projects you have worked on
  • Some cloud experience (pref. Azure)
• Interested in and have a good understanding of remote sensing and programming in general
• Dedicated to work in a startup environment

Nice to have

• Curiosity for farming
