The Artful Dementia Research Lab, Siste Kapittel/Last Chapter and Fremtenkt would like to invite you to an online workshop on the Futures of Ageing.
This is the second of two Futures Workshop on age-friendly societies, the first having been conducted on the 25th of November 2020. The current workshop is open to both new and returning participants.
We invite you to bring yourself—your experiences and perspectives, be they personal, practical and/or academic, from any and all of the different roles you inhabit in your life today—and a place or location that you are familiar with. It could be a house, a bar, a university, a hospital, a bus route or anyplace else. What matters is that you are familiar with it, and that there is something about it that is less than utopian from the perspective of ageing.
We provide the framing: a democracy in miniature. Here, you will be given free rein to criticise anything and everything that is wrong about the way ageing is imagined, organised or treated, as expressed in the location you have chosen; imagine fantastical alternative, ageing-friendly futures for this place; and, finally, draft plans for how you—singly and in collaboration with your fellow workshop participants—can work to bring the present reality closer to the imagined future(s).
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, 17 February 2021 at 13:00 (CET). That's 07:00 for NY, 12:00 for London, and 23:00 for Sydney.
Approximate duration: 2+1 hours.
During the first two hours, we will critically examine the example places brought by the participants, identifying everything about them that is less than utopian from the perspective of ageing and ageing-friendliness, and then go on to imagine, freed of all constraints, what these places could look like as utopian places of ageing.
For those who are pressed for time, the third hour is optional. However, it is highly recommended: during the third and last hour, we will draft plans for how we, singly and together, can effect positive change so as to bring the present reality of our chosen places closer to their utopian potential.
