A decent overview of the background trends and players in this emerging ecosystem. They discuss problems around “difficulty to get funding, the cost/censorship of major science journals, and areas of censored funding due to political intervention.

The author believes a DAO network can solve centralized science’s problems.

Specifically by

1. Using DeFi tools to address research funding challenges.
2. Eliminating the middleman between researchers and reviewers.
   1. Incentivizing peer review without the scientific journal charging a major fee
3. Validating a scientist's reputation in an unbiased manner.

Cameron Nili from Impact Finance also wrote an overview of the sector with Web3 is about to disrupt scientific funding. They claim decentralizing science funding will

• solve issues caused by the fact that scientific funding only comes from two sources (government grants and corporate R&D budgets).

• Communities can incentivize valuable science — not just science that fits for-profit or government priorities
• It accelerates the (continued) rise of the citizen scientist
