We are looking for a Quantum Research Engineer (QRE), who will bridge the gap between Entropica’s algorithms research and software tools. On the one hand, as QRE you will be able to understand the requirements of the research team, and translate them – e.g. new techniques developed in-house, or derived from literature – into our key software tools, such as OpenQAOA. On the other hand, you will also be actively involved in the company’s research work, providing the opportunity to contribute directly to content output by the team.
Your responsibilities will involve all of the following:
- Help Entropica translate state-of-art algorithms into software tools that can be applied to solve optimisation problems.
- Track progress of research in the field and propose plans to integrate new algorithms or modifications to existing ones.
- Prototype relevant / promising ideas in code, both on simulators and QPUs.
- Contribute to and improve Entropica’s strategy for accessing and using quantum hardware.
- Assist with the management and promotion of Entropica’s open source software offerings.
- Reading scientific literature and presenting complex ideas to the team.
- Contributing to scientific publications, patents and whitepapers.
Our Ideal Candidates:
To help you assess if you would be a good fit for the position, this is a blueprint of the skills our ideal candidate has:
- You have a Masters and ideally a PhD (or equivalent experience) in quantum information, physics, computer science, or a closely related discipline.
- A record of publications in quantum information, algorithms and/or quantum optimisation.
- Strong knowledge of NISQ Algorithms, with bonus points for knowledge of Fault-Tolerant Algorithms
- Experience of scientific programming, and/or quantum programming languages such as Qiskit or Cirq.
- Excellent communication skills and written technical English.
- Working knowledge of quantum error correction schemes.
- Working knowledge of (discrete, combinatorial) optimisation, and/or other areas of applied mathematics.
- Experience of using real quantum computers.
