What is this?

This is an EIPIP proposal to migrate EIP content from eips.ethereum.org to an ethereum.org subdirectory (ethereum.org/eips).

This is NOT a proposal to migrate the EIP Github repository or to change anything related to the EIP process. This would merely change the public website that displays EIPs.

The problem

The core motivation here is to make EIP content more discoverable & more accessible. As discussed in this Github issue, community members surfaced several issues with the current state of the EIP site:

1. eips.ethereum.org currently ranks poorly for SEO & as a result, is not easily discoverable
   • For most EIP-related queries, e.g. "EIP1948", "EIP-1948", or "EIP 1948", eips.ethereum.org does not rank on page 1 of Google
2. There is low bandwidth from EIP editors to make site improvements
3. There's been low involvement from volunteers to help make site improvements

What we've tried

Steps we've already taken to improve EIP discoverability:

• Link to EIPs site & key EIPS (i.e ERC20 & ERC721) from ethereum.org - (Completed 4/2019)
• Optimize eips.ethereum.org meta tags (Completed 11/2019)
• Add "Ethereum Improvement Proposals" to ethereum.org site footer (Completed 2/2020)
• Create an "Introduction to EIPs" page on ethereum.org (In progress)

So far, these updates have not yielded noticeable SEO ranking improvements & the ethereum.org links currently generate ~2 clicks per day.

Our proposed solution
