Tracheal tubes

Choice of tracheal tube (TT)

may use uncuffed (preferably in neonates) or cuffed

Approx. size = Age (years)/4 + 4

Ensure a half size larger and smaller Tracheal Tube (TT) is to hand.

Cuffed TT can be considered for use in resuscitation of infants and children (except neonates) provided the correct tube size is selected.

End-tidal carbon dioxide (ETCO2) monitoring is useful in assessing correct tracheal tube placement.
