The moment you sign up your first customer and get your first payment, everything feels real.

I still remember my first cheque – when cheques were still a thing – $50 from WIRED magazine for a short article I‘d written (in ~1998).

That first payment felt like validation: I was ‘officially’ a writer.

Nothing beats that feeling. Of course, everything is just as real before you reach that moment of validation, but it’s a special moment.

When you hit that first payment – $10, for example – set another goal: $100. Every time you hit a subsequent goal, set a new goal that’s increased by an order of ten.

By the time you hit your sixth goal, you’ll be a millionaire. (1)

(1) Increase your goals by a factor of ten and by your sixth milestone and you’ll be a millionaire:
