Derric is a Malaysian photographer/ videographer based in Naarm and is currently studying in The University of Melbourne. He does both photography and videography, and is constantly exploring for ways to tell stories through the aforementioned visual mediums.
With a passion for capturing and sharing personal and collective narratives, he uses colors, lights and feelings to execute his projects. Circa 2023, he got a hand me down camera from his brother, and throughout his journey of mastering the camera, he got introduced to film photography that he so often uses in his work due to his love for the medium itself - its organically wabi-sabi nature, the technicalities of film, and the intentionality behind each frame.
Derric reasons that photography is an exploration of self, and that is done through the understanding of the self, others and the interdependency of humans beings as a whole. Hence, he strives to create pieces of work that are capable of resonating emotionally with others.
