The application process to join our spring cohort consists of 2 parts — the design challenge and the written application.
1️⃣ Design Challenge
This is a short challenge that should take around 4-5 hours. We want to see how you think and solve problems with this activity. You will submit a slide deck going through your process in the application link.
2️⃣ Written Application
We'd like to learn more about you and your interest in joining Design Interactive. It should take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.

Incomplete or late submissions will not be reviewed.
Review the application link — this is where you'll submit your written questions and the link to your slide deck to the Design Challenge.
Email interview invitations will be sent out after the deadline.

Guidelines
Submission format: Google Slides (import from Canva if needed)
Embrace a human-centered design process to showcase your problem-solving skills.
Create a digital solution using a tool of your choice (Figma, Adobe XD, Sketch, etc.). Figma is recommended for its accessibility.
While time is limited, we expect some research efforts. Prioritize addressing key pain points in the student experience, whether through interviews, online research, or other relevant methods.
Getting Started
Explore the UC Davis AMP Parking app to familiarize yourself with its functions.
Narrow down your focus to a specific problem within the app. Generate potential solutions through sketches or basic prototypes. Test your ideas with individuals to gather valuable feedback.
In your slide deck, elaborate on the rationale behind your decisions, emphasizing the "why" of your solution.

We understand that the application process can be difficult, so we are available to assist. To offer guidance on approaching the application, We will have an application workshop on Wednesday, October 4th, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in Wellman 216. The workshop will include a walk-through of the design thinking process as well as a review of a past application. If you want to know more about applying for our Fall 2023 cohort, feel free to attend!
Additionally, we’ll be holding virtual office hours every day starting Monday, October 2nd, until the application deadline — feel free to ask us questions, ask about Design Interactive, or have someone to talk to about design.
