Who are Dark Matter Labs?

In a context of climate breakdown and technological disruption, Dark Matter Labs focuses on accelerating societal transition towards collective care, shared agency, long-termism and interconnectedness. Our daily work ranges from policy and regulation to finance and data, from governance and democratic participation to organisational culture and identity. We organise our work around what this transition needs, and the things we want to see in the world. To keep that transparent, we undertake open work in collaborative partnerships to provoke alternative visions of the future, designing how they might look in practice, and experimenting in context to reveal how they could work and enable the necessary change.

Dark Matter Laboratories is a growing team and currently incorporated in the UK (as a team within Architecture00 Ltd, part of Project00 Ltd), the Netherlands (Dark Matter Laboratories B.V.), Canada, Sweden and South Korea.

We support equality

Dark Matter Labs is an equal opportunities employer, and we continue to educate ourselves on how we can improve. Humans from all nationality, race, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation and identity are welcome at Dark Matter Labs. We recognise and celebrate the true value of a safe and accepting working environment that only a diverse team can unlock, and work to address our underlying biases that can prevent that from materialising. Our projects and partners are spread across the planet and we aim to reflect the same diversity on multiple levels in our team and with the partners we work with.

How we’re structured

We're a multidisciplinary, self-managed and distributed team based around the planet. We work with a propositional mindset by default and with an action-orientation (despite perhaps seeming the opposite on paper!).

We seek to operate on advice-based principles, with continual iteration and gradual improvements that everyone is able to author. We recognise that the double-sided coin of freedom and responsibility act together, and are building a culture where everyone has agency and also responsibility for what we co-create.

We pride learning, experimentation and intuition, and look to provide members of the team ways in which they can grow their own knowledge and practice.

You will be supported by the wider Dark Matter Labs team (currently 35+) and connect with them remotely on a day-to-day basis. Throughout the year you will also get the chance to engage with the team for joint learning and development.
