“Reality goggles” is one of my favorite terms out there...

The whole idea is this: we all view things differently (with our own unique “goggles” on for seeing reality).

Some are more foggy than others, but nearly everyone believes that their goggles are better than they actually are.

Ego, biases, and unhealthy perceptions can cloud all of our minds. They can easily bleed into our worldview, forcing us into different interpretations of the same things. This can lead to conflict...

So I’ve tried making it my mission to look at everything objectively— removing all logical fallacies and cognitive biases that prevent truth from leading the way.

How do reality goggles fog up? There seems to be 3 common ways...

The first two are very well summed up here:

1) Ego

The smaller you can make your ego -> the less conditioned your reactions will be -> the less desires you will have about the outcome you want -> the easier it will be to embrace reality. - Naval

“Opinions are conclusions. Most people start with conclusions.” — Dalio

2) Blind Spots

Blind spots are the things that your reality goggles aren’t able to see (especially when you’re looking in the wrong direction.)

No matter how much wide-ranging knowledge or experience you have, you’ll never be able to see EVERYTHING well. So combine perspectives and work together towards better answers. Discord, twitter, and in-person communication is great here if you’re on-board with other people.

I’ve found that multiple collaborative brains is MUCH better than just one.

Why else would scientific conferences and company boards exist?
