If you are reading this by way of me sending it to you, then you probably reached out because you want to work with me. 🎉
Firstly, I want to say thank you. It's not lost on me how insanely lucky I am to have made it to a point in life where someone ambitious and smart like you wants to work with me in any capacity. I am so grateful for that, and I am grateful for people like you who hustle. It's what's gotten me to where I am today, and it's what's going to provide you the agency to do whatever you want down the road. 🌸
Secondly, I want to say sorry. I know it might be annoying to get a templated response like this, but I assure you it's me trying to accelerate us to a place where I can tell you yes or no and we can work together faster. I get 100's of these types of requests every month. If I don't field for information and quickly get to a place where I can make a decision, your message ends up sitting in limbo and my anxiety spikes and I never get back to you. I am a broken human, and this document is my attempt to work around my inadequacies so I can hopefully work with as many awesome people as possible.
If you want to work with me at Loom, please keep in mind that my word to the company carries a disproportionate amount of weight. If I tell an executive or leader at the company that I want to push someone into the interview panel, it happens. Because of that, I only advocate for people who I think show a lot of promise to make it through and it's very hard for me to glean that online unless you have a significant amount of work to show for it.
In general, I need information from you that helps me be your advocate! This is what I'm looking for:
If you are looking at a job posting and are not sure you have the credentials to do the job, I do not want to waste your time. Just let me know your concerns upfront, and, hopefully, I can help you understand the real odds of you landing the role! As always, impact, character, and progress are the things I'm looking for above all else (read below).
