Voltage Club: What started out as an idea to build a community for audiovisual creators to collaborate on music videos turned into building a platform for receiving music demos and getting paid for giving feedback

The original idea for Voltage Club

Problem

Performing is how most producers / DJs make money, but due to Covid that has been completely removed.
Reviewing demo submissions is a difficult and unrewarded task.
- Some DJs have an email for demo submissions, but this process is really inefficient because people send their demos in different formats (i.e. soundcloud link, mp3 file, etc.). Payments are not included or DJs use different services - PayPal, Venmo, their own website, etc.

Solution

My friends and I built a platform to help DJs make money by reviewing demos from aspiring music producers.

We streamline demo submission and payment, demo management, and the review process is as easy as clicking a button to record a video giving feedback.

Process

We iterated our way to this idea by talking to tons of friends in the community: producers, artist managers, booking agents, and visual artists. The feedback product is the result of months of having casual conversations with all of these people to identify their real needs.

Once we identified the need for a paid feedback platform, this was our process to design and build it:
