It’s my birthday today. First of all, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me, Ukraine DAO and Ukraine this year. You are amazing and I’m grateful to have met so many incredible people amidst this nightmare.
I’m not a huge fan of birthday celebrations (at least, not of my own ones), but I’d like to ask you for a favour today.
<aside> ❤️ Donate to the military hospital in Toretsk
My very good friend Chris Occhicone is an incredible photo journalist. He’s been documenting the war in Ukraine since 2014 for the likes of the Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg, and took an amazing portrait of our President recently.
He’s been photographing in the military hospital in Toretsk, Donetsk region.
The doctors and nurses at the hospital treat injured soldiers as well as civilians. Their task is to remove shrapnel, stop bleeding, stabilize the patients, and evacuate them to a better equipped and safer hospital. We recently helped them with fundraising for a mobile ultrasound (see [completed] Mobile Ultrasound - Toretsk Hospital).
They are working in an under-equipped hospital, with no running water, intermittent electricity (they have a generator), are within 2km of the russian forces, and they regularly get shelled.
The best present for my birthday would be for people to donate to support them, or to spread the word about them so they can get more help. The person raising funds for them is Chris, so you can contact him if you have questions.
