The Intersectional Futures Network (IFN) is a robust community of practice focused on re-centering narratives and assumptions about the values and limitations embedded in technology. This is a space for meaningful connection and experimental collaboration, with access to private workspaces, emergent content, invite-only talks, and a first look at CIVIC material before it's published.

IFN is a global, interdisciplinary and multi-lingual community that supports sharing knowledge and lived experiences to challenge power paradigms in the design of socio-technical systems, as well as answer questions about how we build our way to equitable futures.

Who is IFN for?

IFN is for anyone who is willing to share, learn and connect, and take action. The network accommodates a wide range of experiences, skill sets, and expertise, and offers different types of opportunities based on the interests and ideas shared in the network. We have members from different walks of life and background including artists, coders, social workers, engineers, researchers, lecturers, and more!

All individuals who are willing to immerse themselves in eye-opening conversations and fall down rabbit holes with community fellows are welcome.

What does it mean to apply and become a member?

There is no monetary cost to joining IFN, however, the process of becoming a member is highly selective. By becoming a member, you commit to being open to connections and conversations. You also agree to follow the IFN code of conduct to make sure the network stays a safe and respectful place for everyone.

The required time commitment is approximately one hour per week. However, we acknowledge the time availability fluctuates depending on individual circumstances, so think of it as a monthly or bi-monthly average.

As a member of this network, you will also have access to a rich body of private work on Context-Aware Systems. The network offers space to connect with other members, explore local and international collaboration opportunities, as well as to join member-only activities, and organize events for community members.

Application Process

Does this sound like the community you've been looking for? The first step is to fill out the application form and answer a couple of questions that help us get to know you better. Once we receive your response, we will process your application and get back in touch with you.

Please keep in mind that we are experiencing a high volume of demand for community memberships, and it might take up to 6 months to hear from us.

The form takes about 45 minutes to fill in, and we don’t expect you to complete it in a super-rigid format. Think of the style as us having a conversation with you to get to know you better.
