CIVIC defines “Context-Aware Systems” as a field of research and applied practice that considers how infrastructure can contain and evolve situated knowledge¹.

The learning modules below were created from CIVIC’s real-life experiences building technology meant to serve the public interest. Each concept stands alone as a principle, together they layer and self-reference to more deeply understand and clarify embedded assumptions that can distort the structures, interpretations, and impacts of data.

⭐️ There is a vast body of work (and custom-built technology) under the surface of the modules which is not yet public. If you’re interested to learn more and see how you can get access, visit our Workshops page.
