Gen is a 19 year old currently living in Lumioise city after attempting to gain independence from her family in Hoenn. She is the oldest of two children and older sister of one of Hoenn’s Elite Four, whom she trained throughout childhood. She currently works at Nouveau Café as a server.
Gen sports a short, curvy build with her recognizable long blonde hime cut and large eyes and brows. Without makeup, freckles are more visible around her face and neck. She also draws two beauty marks under her eyelids. Her roots are often in various states of visibility as she is not a natural blonde. She has a large bust (E size).
To most people Gen is a kind and generally sociable person, though she may come across as a bit shy depending on the context at first. However she can quickly unravel into a very bratty personality the closer she gets with others. She is very headstrong, looking to carve her own path her own way outside of her families influence. This makes her come across very fiery and motivated, but she is still quite spoiled in many ways due to her upbringing and availability of finances and this can appear unsavoury to others. Gen values determination, honesty and perseverance from those around her and detests arrogance, complacency and selfishness.

Gen was conceived as my Legends ZA protagonist. She didn’t really have much of a personality at first, and in typical Pokemon fashion, the character slowly grows based on how I play the game. I was hoping that the fashion in ZA would help me figure out her character but I find the clothing options really frustrating, so I had trouble dressing her. Initially she was this kind of laid back sleepy kind of character with a temper. But I didn’t like these concepts and felt very detached from them.
I kinda threw myself at the wall but wasn’t happy with anything so I redrew an image on Pinterest expecting to change the outfit but I decided to keep it. I posted it which was surprising and I thought this was the direction I’d take her in, that I had “figured out” the direction that I initially had. But I still wasn’t a huge fan of it (I think I was moreso just happy I coloured something and finished it, rather than was actually proud of the design)
I don’t really know how I decided this, but I wanted to try drawing her in EGL, and I thought it was decent, so I tried working with that. It took a lot of drawings but I was slowly figuring her out. She’s very inspired by old school lolita, down to the body type lol…she’s pretty generic here, but slowly forming. I wanted an oc with hime bangs since none of my ocs have that hairstyle and I thought it’d go really well with Mawile.
I drew her over and over in different coords based on a lot of Pinterest images. It took a loot of drawings before she started taking shape. In the drawing where she’s holding Mawile, I felt like I was super close but just missed the mark. I look back on that drawing and feel frustrated. I was high one night and was drawing just to close out the evening, so as I was sobering up I drew the Gen on the right in the sax coord. I coloured it because I was so pleased with it, and it was here that I felt like I finally hit what I was looking for.
This made me want to draw her even more so I could continue refining her design.
The demo for Monster Hunter Stories 3 came out and I was really impressed by the character creator so I wanted to make Gen in it since I now have a strong foundation and could maybe add some more unique elements to her character.
I gave her bushy brows, big lips and a unique eye type where she has a super huge highlight on most of the iris. I started implementing it in my drawings and really liked it. I also gave her a very round face and a long straight nose to contrast.
and then things just kinda clicked finally! Also I decided to base her body type on someone I know, and I gave her a lot of really prominent eyelashes and cute nails. She slowly became less “eepy cute girl” and more bratty and cute, which I’m very happy with.
