Code for America's Community Fellowship program pairs local Brigade talent with government to improve services for vulnerable people they serve.

Building on the best of the legacy Code for America Fellowship, the Community Fellowship program aims to strengthen the relationship between local Code for America Network leaders and their governments — to create conditions where change can “stick” and help transform government from the inside out.

The Community Fellowship represents a microcosm of Code for America’s theory of change. Where projects themselves show what’s possible on critical issues. Partnership with local government helps build capacity and show others how to do it themselves. And connections with the Brigade Network and community partners build the movement around the work. Each fellowship is an opportunity for Code for America to reaffirm how we make changes in the world and demonstrate impact on urgent issues felt acutely by the most vulnerable.

The fellowship also gives Code for America a comparatively low-risk platform to cultivate talent, explore new issue areas, and experiment with new practices for Delivery-driven Government. Coupled with the prioritization of the most vulnerable, the Community Fellowship is uniquely situated to spot opportunities for the rest of the Network and the organization and reflect the best of a bottom-up approach to creating a government that works for all of us.
