Baha Yetkin Trio offers a distinctive voice within the European jazz landscape: intimate, virtuosic and emotionally direct, connecting deep Turkish makam traditions with contemporary jazz improvisation.

Baha Yetkin Trio is a contemporary jazz ensemble based in London, rooted in Turkish classical and traditional music, enriched with the spirit of jazz improvisation. Led by oud virtuoso, composer, educator, and choir conductor Baha Yetkin, the trio brings a rare and deeply emotive sound to the European jazz scene.

Together, they create textured soundscapes that blend modal improvisation, deep Turkish makam (microtonal) music melodies, and dynamic rhythmic structures. The trio’s performances shift naturally between meditative solos, intricate ensemble interplay, and expressive grooves.

Rather than fusing genres in a superficial way, the trio seeks an organic dialogue between East and West, tradition and now.
Their live sets move between original compositions, traditional Turkish pieces reinterpreted through jazz sensibilities, and free improvisations rooted in centuries-old musical language.

One of the first Turkish oud players to build a career in the UK, Baha has lived in London since 2014.
He is the conductor of four choirs in London, Cambridge and Birmingham.

He is also the author of “Turkish Oud Method Vol. 1”, the first Turkish oud method written in English, and he is a highly regarded educator on Ottoman/Turkish Music.
