BuyCoins (Y Combinator S18) is a cryptocurrency exchange for Africa. BuyCoins is the easiest & fastest way to buy or sell Bitcoin, Ethereum & Litecoin using your local debit cards + bank account.

At BuyCoins, we believe cryptocurrencies will open up Africa to a global system of value transfer.

We're working on some really exciting (if we say so ourselves) things and we need a fantastic backend engineer to come and participate in our vision of the future. If hired, you'll be working closely with CTO & CEO Timi Ajiboye.

Role description

The backend engineer is responsible for building the server side services that power the entire BuyCoins experience. To do this, we need someone with the following skills:

• Advanced understanding of the web and server-side/API development; HTTP, REST, databases [preferably Postgres], etc.
• Advanced experience with Ruby on Rails [preferably] or similar frameworks like Django, Laravel, Sails.js etc
• A practical understanding of GraphQL [We love GraphQL!]
• Familiarity with unit testing [preferably Rspec]
• GoLang/Node.js experience.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
• The ability & willingness to work autonomously/independently
• A curious mind that is eager to learn & innovate.
