How to Write A Purpose Statement

Opening statement (i.e., topic sentence): The purpose for wanting this type of job is so that I can develop as an individual as well as contribute to outside efforts so that others benefit as well.

Expectations

  1. What do I really want my job to be?
  2. What do I really need in my job?
  3. What fears do I have about my job?

Expectations (example)

  1. I want a job that rewards taking risks.
  2. I want a job that recognizes the importance of sharing personal pedagogical experiences.
  3. I want a job that relies on teacher input in making important curricular decisions.
  4. I want a job where student assessments are planned, implemented, and assessed through teacher collaboration and cooperation.
  5. I want a job where student work serves some sort of public good.
  6. I want a job where institutional networks harness pedagogical knowledge and skill sets to everyone’s advantage.

Commitments
