When users first encounter 1app in 2024, they experience a seamless financial platform that makes daily transactions feel effortless. But this wasn't always the case. Four months of intensive redesign work transformed what was once a cluttered, confusing interface into one of Nigeria's most user-friendly fintech application - and till date, I still thank my boss then for giving me the opportunity to work on this Fintech project.

Back in late 2020, 1app was struggling with a common fintech challenge: feature overload. The app offered everything from mobile payments to airtime purchases, data bundles, and utility bills. However, these capabilities were buried under a maze-like interface that left users frustrated and confused. Error messages were cryptic, the navigation felt like a puzzle, and the design inconsistencies made the app feel unpolished. When I actually asked the development team, I was informed the design was done by a freelancer on Fiverr who created just 3-page concept for them to work with and they had to come up with the other pages.
Knowing the onboarding page will stir the interest of any user, I designed every component on this page to welcome, educate, and excite the user, ensuring they start their 1app journey on the right foot.

The home page had emphasis placed on intuitive layout and visual appeal. The aim was to allow users to easily navigate and interact, making their time on the app both productive and enjoyable.

Users value transparency, especially when money is involved. The Funding and History section provides a clear record of users’ monetary activities. When I designed this sections, I focused on making it easy for users to review their past actions and add funds.

The “All Services” section is like a toolbox, offering users a variety of functions to choose from. Taking the “Buy Data” page as an example, the high-fidelity design was tailored to be user-friendly.
