Welcome to Aula's mini-conference: panel discussions, keynote speakers and experiential workshops.

Why are we bringing people together?

Context:

‘The future of art, design and performance education: September 2020 as an opportunity for innovation and change.’ is a follow on event from Aula’s and Wonkhe’s highly successful event ‘No Buildings from September'. We recently reshaped this event to ensure it was highly relevant in response to the most pertinent questions facing art, design and performance education right now. Namely, how do we rethink teaching and learning in art, design and performance education to respond to the very important calls for change which the Black Lives Matter movement is campaigning for, and which both Covid-19 and BLM necessitate?

Current events across the globe raise questions about the purpose of art, design and performance education, its representation and its opportunities. The Covid-19 Pandemic and Black Lives Matter Movement of 2020 are reshaping the future of HE. By September the world will have seen substantial change.

We are attempting to create a safe discursive space in which to address how we respond to these events in a way that supports students access to education come September - what is the role of art, design and performance education in delivering and responding to that change? And how do we do that in a hybrid or digital-first teaching and learning model?

Aula has curated a group of experts from across the UK and USA HE sectors in art, design and performance to come together to explore the questions, issues, and most importantly opportunities to create a more socially just and responsive art, design and performance education via digital in September and beyond.

Join us for panel discussions, keynote speakers and experiential workshops where we explore methods and approaches to teaching art, design and performance subjects in digital space. The mini-conference will be highly interactive, and you will have the opportunity to ‘see’ and network with others in our community on the day.
