Rostelecom is a Smart Home app that allows customers to manage their smart intercoms, barriers, and utilities.

I joined the team to redesign the app.

Case №1: New navigation

Problem

Current one-page navigation limited further development of the app functionality.

Solution

As a passionate advocate of well-established design patterns (I’m the author of an article 32 design differences between iOS and Android apps), I decided to use the Tab bar and the Bottom Navigation Bar as the top-level navigation.

I placed on the main tab the following features: quick access to cameras, doors opening, and creating a guest code. The second tab is for an overview of all available services. The third tab is the history of events. In the old version, the history was located deep in the app. We placed this important feature on the top level of navigation. The fourth column is a classic profile with personal information, support, and log-out.

I also took the initiative to create a well-thought Ui Kit and sync it with our devs.

Output

We gradually delivered new navigation in 3 releases. It simplifies the implementation for the developers and allows users to get used to the changes.

  1. In the first release, we presented the new navigation in Tab bat (Bottom navigation bar)
  2. In the second release, we updated the UI
  3. In the third release, we added the fourth tab — the dashboard
