<aside> 🎆 Development-related discussions have moved to our new Spectrum.chat community!

As announced, Aragon's public community chat will soon be migrating from Rocketchat to Discord.

If you've joined the new Discord server, you may have noticed that the only development-related channels available are dev-hangout and court-dev. We have chosen not to re-introduce too many development-related discussions, especially those of the dev-help channel, immediately into the Discord server.

Although we have held incredibly valuable discussions on Rocketchat over the last few years, the team has increasingly felt over time that Rocketchat was not the best medium to exchange technical thoughts and provide developer support. Ephemeral messages that offered no SEO opportunities as well as a suboptimal threading experience often caused newcomers to repeat similar questions or have conversations migrated into private direct messaging.

As we evaluated alternatives for improvement, like creating a StackOverflow community or participating in the new Github discussions feature, Spectrum.chat stood out as a readily-available off-the-shelf tool that has been used by several other large communities to great success in supporting and collaborating with users as well as contributors.

Amongst the overall enhanced reading and writing experience, the key features that stood out to us were the first-class threading experience, search indexing, and linkability of conversations—all of which will allow us to move most conversations to be public and reduce the number of duplicated questions, and none of which are available in Discord.

We would like to treat these next few weeks on Spectrum.chat as an experimental period, where we are open to feedback and alternative suggestions. We hope that this will not create a divide between the general Aragon community and our developer community, but better focus discussions and our ability to provide support for different target audiences.

So again, thanks for being a part of the Aragon community and see you on Spectrum.chat!
