Overview

Hello! Thanks for participating in our study. You will listen to and rate 80 sound infusions (a type of audio morph). The study takes about 20–30 minutes.

What is a Sound Infusion?

A morph is a fused sound that combines two concepts into a single, coherent sound that resembles both at once. A sound infusion is a specific kind of morph where:

You can think of it like making soup, where the primary sound is the broth, and the secondary sound is the ingredient or spice that adds flavor while the broth remains the base.

For example, for a sound infusion described by

Behavior of pig oinking with timbre like a synthesizer

good morph oink synth.wav

example sound infusion

A good infusion might sound like a pig oinking as if oinks were created by synthesizers or even as if the pig was a cyborg.

Your Task

For each infusion, please listen rate the sound on two criteria:

(1) Plausibility: How successfully does the audio capture the morphing prompt above?

(1 = doesn’t match at all, 5 = perfect match)

e.g. Target Prompt: “Behavior of pig oinking with timbre like a synthesizer”

High Plausibility Example (rate higher)

good morph oink synth.wav

Can hear qualities of both pig oinking and synthesizer

Low Plausibility Example (rate lower)

bad morph oink synth.wav

Harder to tell if it is a pig

(2) Sound Type: Is the audio a Morph, a Mix, or Neither? Descriptions and audio examples below!
