I live in Eastern NC with my wife Chelsea and son Beckett.
I’m studying digital-first collaboration at Cimpress and Vista in pursuit of a world-class team member experience. Right now, most of my energy is focused on driving async proficiency and a healthy meeting culture.
Previously I held strategy and creative roles at media businesses and eCommerce startups across multiple industries (mostly personal finance and CPG). One of my favorite projects ever was end-to-end creative/operations ownership for a publisher launch that saw profitability in under 16 months.
My working style ⚡️
Specialization is for the insects. - Robert A. Heinlein
- I think in summaries and feelings — I rarely can recall exact facts on demand. I'm often tempted to think poorly of myself because of this trait, but I find encouragement in John Lowe, the CEO of Jeni's Ice Cream. Like me, he requires copious amounts of notes to keep track of details. (His podcast about this on 2pml is fantastic.)
- I often play the devil's advocate. When I do this, I promise I'm not trying to be difficult — it helps me wrap my head around things.
- I'm most fulfilled when I work in a generalized, cross-functional capacity. I find great joy in connecting dots between unrelated subject matter. (*Range* by David Epstein helped me embrace this aspect of myself.)
- I've received praise for my optimism in previous roles, but the flip side is that I have to work harder than most to maintain an objective perspective of time. I value input from colleagues that keeps me grounded, so please check me on this if you think I'm setting unrealistic expectations.
- I'm intrinsically motivated, and focused on competence, achievement, and curating knowledge. I fear untapped potential most of all.
- I desire to understand things at the most fundamental level, so I naturally lean toward the First Principles model. By default, I approach problems with associative thinking patterns. I use mind maps to help me avoid analysis paralysis when quick decisions are necessary.
