If you follow my tech writing YouTube channel, you know I am a big fan of prototyping a career before diving right into it. That's why when I receive emails from folks who want to break into tech writing, I first try to help them evaluate if tech writing is the right career for them before overwhelming them with all the available resources.

While I LOVE connecting with the community, the sheer number of these emails makes me the bottleneck in the evaluation process. So I created this worksheet to empower you to self-evaluate if tech writing is the right career for you.

How to use this worksheet

The worksheet includes prompts and activities to help you assess your current career situation, think through your expectations from a tech writing career, and self-evaluate the skills required to become a successful tech writer.

There are no right or wrong answers here. And you don't have to answer all the prompts. Honestly answering the prompts relevant to you will help you make an informed decision about pursuing a tech writing career. It will also help you figure out which skills you need to work on. Good luck!

Worksheet

🙌🏽 You made it through the worksheet! I hope it gave you clarity on whether tech writing is a good career choice for you. If yes, welcome to the field! If not, good luck on your next adventure!
