Amae Health is redefining the standard of care for people with severe mental illness.
We’re on a mission to deliver radically different care for the 14 million Americans suffering with a severe mental illness (SMI). Amae Health is a verticalized specialty care provider for patients with SMI, treating their psychiatric and physical conditions via a hybrid of in-person and virtual care settings. Our approach recognizes the unique needs of our patients, and provides personalized treatment across the physical, mental and social service resources required to holistically improve health outcomes. We believe that only by treating the whole person can you obtain lasting health outcomes.
‘Amae’, pronounced ‘Ah-mai’, is a Japanese concept meaning the need to be in good favor with, and the ability to depend on, the people around oneself. It reflects our core belief that a strong support system is essential to build people up, strengthen their will to carry on and even to thrive in life. This mentality applies across our whole company – from the patients we serve to the team we’re building.
We’re a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) that provides outpatient psychiatric and primary care health services through value-based care arrangements. Our model’s success is predicated upon achieving outcomes for our patients, not on volume of services provided.
Amae is a venture-capital backed company, having raised from investors that also backed healthcare companies like Cityblock, Oscar, Elemy, Forward, Nomi Health as well as non-healthcare companies like Square, Lyft, Palantir and Instacart. We’re also backed by angel investors that include founders and CEO’s of multi-billion dollar digital healthcare startups.
Amae Health is led by co-founders Sonia Garcia, Stas Sokolin and CMO Dr. Scott Fears. We launched Amae after seeing our parents and siblings battle schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and witnessing the lack of adequate care. These battles led to incarceration, drug addiction, homelessness, and tragically, suicide. We believe there is a better way, and are bringing both our personal understanding and professional experience (from places like Brightline, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, UCLA Department of Psychiatry) as operators, investors and clinicians to solve this problem.
If you are motivated by our mission, are looking to solve hard and impactful problems, and want to dedicate your career to improving the health and wellness of society’s most underserved patients, we’d love to hear from you. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
