The Summary

In her paper "The 10 Vs of Big Data framework in the Context of 5 Industry Verticals"(2019), Professor Ranjan discusses why some projects fail in using Big Data, and sometimes before the actual implementation. Besides, Ranjan says that two factors lead to successful projects that use Big data organizational and technical. Big data is not enough to succeed in the projects. It must have managers who have administrative skills so they can use big data in the right way. The writer aims to clarify that using big data in projects is different based on the industry type. For example, the importance of variety, which is one of the 10 Vs., of healthcare, which is very high, is different from consumer products, which is very low. This difference in importance comes from the type of data they used by each industry. He also points out that big data is not easy to implement. It is needs experts and advanced and expensive hardware and software, to name a few. The way that the writer writes the paper is persuasive. He provided the data collected for each industry and which kind of data to drive the search's conclusion.

I agree with the author about the points mentioned in the article. The Big Data characteristics need deep understanding to know how to use them well to obtain their advantages and make the project or business run successfully. The way that the author used the history of Big Data definition developed makes me think that any technical topic can be improved and enhanced like the Big Data improved from three Vs up to 10 Vs or even as mentioned up to 42 Vs.

This paper opened my eyes to how big data can influence different industries based on different factors. For example, the kind, value, and quality of data that the industry uses. As the consumer products industry has data, there is no necessary to store it for a long time as in a healthcare industry where the patient data must be high quality and store for a long time. Also, the data variety in consumer products is structured data, which makes the analysis easier than the healthcare industry data, which is, in most cases, semi-structured data.

If there is any improvement to this paper, that would not be too exclusive to the business industry. May add some of the governmental and educational sector's data need to this kind of analyzing. These sectors have more impact on people's lives.
