It is that time of the year again. Every year or every January for the past 2 years I have been checking and renewing my domain in the hope that I will remain consistent in publishing content to my blog. However, due to various reasons, I have not been posting anything on my blog. One of the key reason is in how I publish my site and I have decided to address this problem.

In the previous update post, I wrote about how I moved from Wordpress to GitHub Pages. At the time, it seemed like a good choice in order to cut down the costs of maintaining my blog. The side effect of that was, it meant I had to write the article, build the site using Hugo framework and then publish them to GitHub in order for the changes to go live on the blog. Although this does not seem like a challenge, whenever I get an idea for a new post, the first thought that crosses my mind is that, I have to go through all those tasks for it to reflect on the website. This thought has turned me away from creating the blog post itself. Another factor that I want to address is that, when am remote or on the go or anywhere without my laptop, it was like I could not update my blog. If at all I would get an idea, I am unable to bring it to life because I cannot publish a post without the code repository stored on the laptop.

So, what's next?

During September of 2022, I had helped my cousin to bring her hobby to the internet through a simple workflow. She wanted a simple solution where write equals publish. I am a huge fan of the productivity app Notion and I knew they had an option to share a link directly to any Notion page. After a little bit of research, I found Fruition - a step by step guide on how to link custom domains to any notion page, free of cost. I followed the 4 step process and voila, the notion page was now linked to a custom domain.

I decided to follow this technique as it will help me eliminate the extra steps of building and pushing the code to a repository for the updates to take effect. Now, whenever I have to publish a new post, I simply have to add a new page in notion and the changes reflect instantly on my blog. This also means that now I donโ€™t need to have my laptop with me at all times to be able to publish any new blog post. Even with the Notion mobile app, I can write and publish posts. I hope and believe that this will enable me to maintain my blog and update them more often.
