Zilla Yatra is not just another mobile app — it's a spiritual companion for users who deeply believe in puja, path, aarti, and Hindu traditions. This app helps users, especially elders or spiritual tourists, to stay informed about temple timings and receive aarti reminders ahead of time.
I created Zilla Yatra as a fully interactive prototype in Figma, focusing on an authentic user experience. This project is close to my heart because I’m from Varanasi — the spiritual capital of India — and I’ve seen first-hand how valuable this kind of app would be for temple-going users like my own family.
I independently researched, designed, and prototyped this entire concept—from user flow and wireframes to UI design, animation logic, and screen interactions. This project was completely self-initiated, without mentor guidance, client brief, or external feedback. It represents my passion for solving real-life problems through thoughtful UI/UX design.
I leveraged Figma and AI tools like ChatGPT and Figma AI, while applying practical thinking grounded in cultural understanding and user behavior.
1. Figma Prototyping Limitations
Figma doesn't allow direct control of multiple screens or variant changes with a single button. For example, when creating interactions for selecting Aarti type and Reminder time, dynamically updating the selected state within each button proved challenging due to tool constraints.
2. Splash Screen Animation
I wanted to create a Netflix-style animated wordmark splash screen. However, Figma's limited motion control forced me to use "after delay" interactions to simulate the animation.
3. Dynamic Selections Inside Buttons
On the "Set Reminder" screen, selected Aarti or time slot values needed to appear inside the buttons themselves. Creating this interactive visual feedback was difficult due to Figma's logic limitations.
4. All-Round Role Handling
I managed everything from UX research and UI design to prototyping and storytelling. When faced with unclear direction, I had to rethink ideas from scratch—mentally exhausting yet ultimately a valuable learning experience.
