Overview
XInput is the successor of DirectInput.
It was designed for the Xbox 360 and the Xbox 360 controllers.
On Windows, it has some limitations compared to DirectInput.
- Does not support keyboard and mouse.
- Does not support legacy joysticks.
- Only handles up to 4 controllers.
However it provides a better support for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers.
- Requires less setup than DirectInput.
- Supports force feedback with two distinct motors.
Xbox 360 Controller
- 2 analog directional sticks, each with a digital button
- 2 analog triggers
- 1 digital directional pad with four directions
- 8 digital buttons
- 2 vibration motors to supply force feedback effects
The left motor and the right motor produce different vibration effects.
- The left motor is a low-frequency rumble motor.
- The right motor is a high-frequency rumble motor.
