Project Title: Reviving Lifeline Transport: Repairing a Rural Ambulance Van for Emkwen Dispensary, West Pokot, Kenya

Project Location: Emkwen Dispensary, a remote rural health facility in West Pokot County, Kenya, serving a catchment population of over 5,000 people across scattered villages. The area has poor road infrastructure and limited access to emergency medical services.

Project Description (Short-Term Goal for $1,000 Grant): The clinic owns a Toyota Land Cruiser van that has long served as both a patient transport vehicle and a makeshift ambulance for emergencies. The vehicle stalled three months ago due to engine failure and worn suspension.

The $1,000 grant will be used for:

Engine system repair and servicing

Replacement of suspension bushings and shock absorbers

Brake system check and repair

Minor bodywork (for door locks and tailgate used during patient loading)

Expected Impact: Restore emergency medical transport for pregnant mothers, children, and critical patients

Reduce delays in reaching Kapenguria County Referral Hospital (35 km away)

Enable mobile outreach for immunizations and health education

Strengthen community trust in the dispensary and its services

Sustainability & Local Support: A local mechanic has offered reduced labor rates

The clinic will cover fuel and maintenance through a partnership with the County Health Department

Community elders and youth groups have pledged to assist in road clearing and basic upkeep
