HA 3671 years, the Okilok Human Federation—one of the four major powers of humanity—is building a megastructure called the Ringworld around the star of the Fluvina system. Despite the Federation’s advanced technology, the project remains a massive challenge. If completed, the Ringworld would greatly raise the Federation’s status among the powers of the galaxy.
Construction of the Ringworld began 60 years ago. The planned total length is 940,000,000 km. The structure is divided into five Sections, with a projected construction time of 120 years. However, the plan to destroy and remove planets from the Fluvina system started 200 years earlier. Today, the outer framework and Section A are complete, and Section B is nearing completion.
New Jackson City is located in Section A, the completed part of the Ringworld. It is the largest city on the Ringworld and its current center of economy, agriculture, and industry. It houses one-fourth of the Ringworld’s population and provides food, housing, and energy for over ten billion people. The city expands outward in a ring. At its center are government buildings, corporate headquarters, financial districts, upscale restaurants, and luxury apartments. Life here is supported by cutting-edge technology, as advertised by Ingelius Tech: “Building the dream life with technology.”
Outside the city center lie dense residential blocks, each capable of holding over 100,000 people. Pipes and conduits run through the shallow soil and reach deep underground—tens of kilometers down—where the mechanical infrastructure of the city lies. Factories, transport hubs, and processing plants operate here in the dark side of the Ringworld, where even the star’s light cannot reach. Transport ships, cargo vessels, and maintenance craft constantly move in and out. Countless workers who came with dreams of building a new home now work and die here, keeping the Ringworld running.
New Jackson City is located in the central area of Section A, covering approximately 30,000 square kilometers, comprising the Upper City and the Lower City. The Upper City includes the downtown area, most of the upscale residential districts, commercial zones, transportation hubs, and the surrounding agricultural areas. The Lower City lies several kilometers underground, gathering slums, cargo transfer stations, warehouses, maintenance stations, factories, and energy plants that maintain the city’s basic operations.
The inner airspace of the Ring World generally permits only city orbital transit; private hovercars and specially licensed aircraft are authorized to pass. Transportation in New Jackson City is highly developed, with transportation hubs distributed throughout the city. These hubs not only connect various public transit facilities and the nearby Langlo Space Station but also link to the Lower City, facilitating cargo transport. Besides the transfer elevators and some intersecting tunnels that connect the Upper and Lower Cities, certain spacecraft are allowed to pass through reserved orbital lanes, after approval, traveling from the Lower City to the Upper City. All other orbital cargo ships, maintenance vessels, and energy ships operate on the backside of the Ring World, in the outer ring area.
