In collaboration with the Saltaire Collection, a small wiki-thon was held at Shipley College with volunteers, staff, and Congruence Engine project members. During the event, training on how to edit Wikipedia was given by Wikimedian Andy Mabbett.

In the second half of the event, participants were given the opportunity to edit pages of interest with support from Andy. Participants worked in groups of two to edit pages related to their research with the Saltaire Collection.

Key Learnings

• While some groups may benefit from workshops geared towards showcasing different types of techniques, others may already have an idea as to what they want to do, and will just need some further support and/or training
• Volunteers and heritage groups are already highly motivated and interested in expanding their skills – need to meet them where they are at with regards to specific research interests
• Sometimes one of the most useful things we (as people embedded in larger institutions) can do with regards to supporting smaller groups of heritage workers and researchers is to just continue to affirm their expertise and work, whether that’s through appreciation and acknowledgement of their contributions or through tangibly support the continuation and preservation of their work
