📌  The Problem

WhatsApp has been rapidly expanding its payments business. At the same time, it has come up as the platform for communication between all sections of people. Today, it is not uncommon for us to deal with our local stores through WhatsApp. The whole communication is manual and needs constant attention from the shop owner until the time the purchase is made. This is not the best usage of their time and there is a scope for product intervention to make the whole process seamless.

📱 Work to be done

To tackle this problem we were given the task to design an experience to enable the local stores (Kirana shops, Stationery stores, etc) to sell items to their customers through WhatsApp for businesses, with a primary focus on the customer’s end of the experience.

We had to follow WhatsApp’s design ideology and UI patterns. We were to ensure that the feature finds a logical place within their Information Architecture, without breaking or intervening with the personal chat ecosystem.

😶‍🌫️ Constraints

  1. Cover the major use cases and flows but do mention any edge cases you come across.
  2. Choose the platform of your choice - iOS or Android.
  3. WhatsApp has its design philosophies as an org. Do not break through those philosophies unless necessary. Essentially, simplicity is the key.
  4. Consider that WhatsApp’s product and design teams work independently of the parent organization, Facebook.
  5. This experience should not break or intervene with the personal chat ecosystem that WhatsApp is.
