Sound Recording (aka Master)
A sound recording results from actual sounds that can be played back. The author of a sound recording is a performer, the record producer/engineer, or both. The author of a sound recording is not necessarily the author of the underlying musical work.
Composition
A musical composition consists of the actual, written melody and lyrics. The author of a musical composition is generally the composer and the lyricist, if there are lyrics.
