Lets kick back off these lessons with an easier assignment! If you missed the stream, I'll link it here with a timestamp after we finish. If you struggle with writing this, check out my essay tutorial video or post in the Discord.

Instructions

Think about or search for, a video of Obama that communicated or triggered a clear response in you or others. Maybe there was a speech that made you emotional or a way that he words things which really ticks you off. Perhaps he has a few habits you despise or a few tricks you think work really well.

Connect what he is saying to the effect it has or conclusion it draws.

Regardless of your opinion on him, I'm looking for you to articulate WHAT he's doing and WHY it is provoking that response in you/others.

Your response can be anything under 3 pages (for time's sake ;^;). Don't feel pressured to hit any amount or quality, just focus on clearly explaining what he's doing and the effect you think it has. We'll be discussing the responses after a few willing participants submit assignments I can share.

Lesson Re-Cap

This lesson, we discussed a few of my own takes on Barack Obama's rhetoric and general demeanor. I hope to have provided a few points to go off of, if not a general skeleton for how you can dissect your own feelings on him. Whether you like him or hate him, what we're trying to get to the bottom of is WHY. We're building the answer to that question with direct quotes & references. Later in the season, we'll be able to use these tools to break down the performance of the presidential candidates.

Election season is upon us in the United States, so we'll be focusing on prior presidents, debates, and other election content. Politicians provide a plethora of prose and rhetorical choices to analyze. As things heat up between our candidates, I'll be able to pull in more timely content, but for now lets recap the past decade.
