Our rides are fun and we want to keep them that way! This isn't a list of what you need but some advice on being comfortable and being responsible for your own needs so that everyone can have a great time.
πͺ¨ at the School of Rocks, we believe that cycling doesn't need uniforms π§πΏβπ
πyou should wear whatever is comfortable for you whether that's lycra, a dress, or a woolly jumper
π©³ we do recommend that you wear padded cycling shorts (without your underpants!) for your own comfort and hygiene
π₯ͺ bring snacks and water - while we give a ballpark for how long a ride will be there is no way of anticipating a mechanical or anything that might slow the group down. So make sure you bring enough food and drink
π bring tools and spares. A spare inner tube for your wheels in case you get a puncture, a pump and a multi-tool are a good idea to be able to sort out any minor mechanicals
π¦ lights in the evenings if the ride finishes after sunset
π₯Ύin the autumn/winter some of the trails will be muddy or wet (some stay pretty muddy all year round!) so wear some trainers, boots or cycling shoes that are comfortable to ride, walk and squelch in. Warm socks in the wetter months are also a great idea
π§ these are led rides but you are responsible for yourself and your own safety. Check that your bike is safe before joining each ride. The M check is a quick and easy way to check your bike is ready to ride
π¦ good vibes - leave the stresses of the day behind you and enjoy exploring and riding your bicycle
β pre register for the ride on the spreadsheet
πΊ check out the route linked in the signup sheet. Have an idea of where you're going and where the main features such as climbs or descents are
ππ½ introduce yourself at the start of the ride - let the ride leader know if you're new to group riding so they can explain any words or hand signals they will use
π’ communicate with the group - let them know if you're finding the pace too fast or if you want to stop for a snack/photo/wild wee
π·π»ββοΈ remember that you are responsible for your own safety
Your ride leaders will take care of navigation so you don't need any sort of cycling computer or navigational device. If you do want to have an idea of where you're going or track your miles there are lots of great phone apps available. You can then either carry your phone in a pocket or mount your phone to your handlebars using a case.
