Project Westwood in Taiwan,
Project Helios in Hokkaido, at 50MW and 104MWh is one of Japan’s earliest BESS projects under construction.
Location: Sapporo City, Hokkaido
Capacity: 50 MW / 104 MWh
Operating life: ~25 years
Technology: Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP)
Status: Under Construction
Target COD: End of 2025
Project Helios is one of Japan’s earliest and most significant utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developments, currently under construction in Sapporo City, Hokkaido. With a capacity of 50 MW / 104 MWh, Helios plays a pioneering role in contributing to grid stability by absorbing excess electricity during peak generation hours and enhancing renewables integration in the region.
Manoa Energy acquired the Helios site at a pre-RTB stage and has led the project through all critical development milestones:
The delivery of all battery units was recently completed, and construction is underway for both the main site and the self-transmission line infrastructure.
