Who Are We and What the Heck is Beta!?

Beta Club offers students the opportunity to serve their communities and compete in an array of academic and artistic competitions. We are one out of 64 clubs in the Indiana and 8,750 clubs nationwide.

“Let us lead by serving others.”

The Indiana Academy Beta Club was founded in the fall of 2018. Unlike other Beta Clubs in the country, we are entirely student-run! Since our founding, our students have qualified for National Convention every year, and we are looking forward to continuing a legacy of service and excellence in 2022. See what we’re all about down below!

Annual Teacher Raffle 🎟️

On the first weekend of April, Beta Club hosted our annual teacher raffle. Each year we get items from students’ favorite teachers and draw tickets to see who wins each prize. Academy teachers are known for their prestige and eccentricity, so we get some pretty cool items. Here are just a few of our top-sellers:

The raffle was a success! We raised $174 and will be using the money for shirts for our National Convention team.

IA Beta is...

Achievement 🏅

Recognizing and honoring high academic achievement.

Students who attend the Academy are already subjected to rigorous academics, and thus meet the academic standard for Beta Club members. The Academy is home to some of the most talented students, and we can always count on them to kick major butt at State Convention.

In Beta, students first compete at the state level, and then, those who place in the top three of their category qualify for the national competition. This year, 8 of our Betas qualified for the National Convention!

Preparing young people for life and empowering them to be successful.

Our Betas are like no other, always rising to the occasion and surpassing expectations. Their roles within their communities extend beyond our club. They are leaders, athletes, students, and friends. Meet two of them below!

Kamarie Fuller-McDade, Senior:

In addition to planning our most successful fundraisers and managing the club’s Instagram, Kamarie also lends her talents to the Academy’s Student Equity Council (SEC) and Intersectional Feminist Club (IFC). She plans to study medicine, raising awareness for social justice issues and disparities in healthcare.

Quiara Dortch, Senior:

Quiara is organized and results-driven, and she brings this mentality not only to the IA Beta Club’s board where she serves as our secretary, but to her embroidery business which is a hit amongst the student body!

We are so proud of our Betas! 👏🗣️

Leadership 🗣️

Developing the leaders of tomorrow.

Unlike other Beta Clubs, our club is entirely student-run. That means that we recruit new members, register for conventions, fundraise, plan service opportunities, archive the history of our club, and much more. There’s a lot to do, but lucky for us we have many dedicated and resourceful members. To efficiently facilitate club functions, we have committees, led by board members, that oversee different things.

Service 🤲

Demonstrating our motto: Let Us Lead by Serving Others.

At the Academy, all students need 50 hours of community service to graduate. IA Beta Club is committed to leading the school in providing students opportunities to engage with their community. Our most popular event has been the 24-hour Gameathon. Students create an account on ExtraLife where they fundraise for the Riley Children’s Hospital while playing video games for 24 hours straight. It’s an exciting, virtual event for our resident nerds 🤓 Last year, we surpassed our goal and raised over $2,000, and this year, we hope to raise even more!

As a two-year boarding school, many students at the Academy are unfamiliar with the Muncie area. However, this only emphasizes the importance of community engagement, and we are proud to connect students to a new community through service.
