đź‘‹This is a group for folks in NYC Tech to volunteer efforts and support our city as the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds. The group initially came together in the weeks following Hurricane Sandy during 2012 to lend time, talent and resources expediting recovery efforts. Our city and country needs the community's support again to help coordinate, brainstorm and organize action.

Community Guidelines:

Be Vocal. Tell the group what problem areas you are interested in supporting (ex: small business, k12, hourly workers, lgbtq, etc.) and what skills you can lend (ex: product, design, backend, frontend, data science, networks, etc.)

Show Compassion. We are all under stress. Everyone here is volunteering their time. Please be kind and compassionate with each other. Actively look for the best in one another.

Do Some homework. There are lots of orgs throughout NYC already doing amazing work on the ground. Try to make sure you find out who these folks are and to amplify their work —and be very careful not to siphon resources away from folks in a better position to make an impact.

People > Tech. Software will help but can't solve the pandemic, so be weary of techsolutionism. Best to think critically about how our skillsets and networks can be useful; rather than to become hammers in search of nails.

Follow Through. Grassroots organizing is great, but its messy. Please only commit to something when you know you'll be able to follow through. That type of self-filtering will help with the noise that comes with large tents.

Use the Channels. Please try to keep relevant conversations in respective channels. If you'd like to see a new one created, say so 🙂
