In class this week, we were given the opportunity to present our current ideas in focus groups, to show others and ourselves included, where we are within our project. From the previous lecturer, we covered the key points and techniques which make a good presentation, i.e keeping eye contact, making your voice loud and clear, standing up straight and so on. I was adamant to practiced these actions while I was creating the presentation and when finally the design of the slides were complete, I again practiced these techniques in front of myself and family members a several times, to make sure my presenting skills were up to scratch.

For the creation of the presentation, I first of all created a layout/frame of what I would talk about and what each slide will include. This was created on paper. Afterwards, I used this layout to then insert the information and statistics I was planning to use in the presentation. The research I conducted a while back was of great help for the backing of my problem statement. I would write on paper what I was going to say for each slide and try my best to memorise word for word so I could cover all points with haste.

Examples of the presentation layout can be seen below:

Once this stage was complete, I began designing and creating the final presentation on Canva. Canva is a handy application for creating presentations, social media posts, PDF’s etc. that I used when I was on placement with the SRC. It’s free to use, very quick and easy to understand. Once I had all my information wrote down on paper, it was only a matter of transferring this onto the slides. I decided to go with a colour scheme that was easy to look at but was also relevant to my idea. For example, in this case I am creating a VR/AR app for the healthcare system for patients of MRI scans, to prepare them for their scans, by providing first person experience from the headset of the scans, as well as reducing anxiety and fear of the machine itself. For this, I would need a colour scheme that is calming, creates a positive vibe, related to health (green) and isn’t overwhelming to look at. From research, I saw that blue and green especially are linked with these emotions. However, as it is still early days, these colours are likely to change.

I was unable to embed my presentation pdf into this page, as it is over 5MB. So instead I exported it as individual JPGs and added them below:
